Paul "Sonny" Winkoski, 51, was discovered in the creek behind his home, 2435 Peninsula Drive.

Winkoski was last seen at the nearby Elks Lodge, 2409 Peninsula Drive, around 11 p.m. Friday.

Millcreek police were called to check on him about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. An officer discovered his body lying in a creek below a wooden bridge shortly thereafter.

Police said it appears Winkoski was walking home from the lodge on Friday night when he fell from a wooden bridge in his backyard. A Styrofoam cup with soup from the lodge was found on the bridge.

"There's no evidence that he was assaulted in any way or that there was another party involved," said Erie County Deputy Coroner Korac Timon.

The 5-foot wide bridge has several boards nailed together and rests six to eight feet above the creek. Timon said Winkoski suffered a serious head injury in the fall.

A woman told police that he had fallen off the bridge before.

An autopsy and toxicology tests will be conducted later this week.
