Boot up your wii, fire up the data management screen, click channels, then SD card.
Put the SD card in the wii
You will get a message saying "Load Boot dol/elf?" Select YES

After Bootmii installs make a backup of your NAND
Backing up the NAND is FUCKING IMPORTANT. If something happens whilst doing this and you fuck up your wii, the NAND will be recoverable and you will be able to restore your Wii. Odds of something happening are 00000.1% but if the power cuts out whilst you are flashing your wii, then you are fucked.
YOU NEED A GAMECUBE CONTROLLER FOR THIS STEP - GO TO FAMILY DOLLAR OR WALMART OR SOME SHIT AND BUY ONE.
With the SD card in, Bootmii will open - to back up your nand, follow what this guy does in the video
Now you are safe from bricking.
OK now for the fun shit.
Start Trucha Bug Restorer (Launch with Homebrew Channel).
Press B to continue without IOS reload (ios at the top can be left as default)
After a few seconds you will get a message that says Press 1 to start the application. At that time press 1
Go to Downgrade IOS15 and press A.
When you see...
<load IOS from SD card> Press A.
When you see...
<load IOS from SD card> Press A.
After prepration...
Press A for Step 1 Press A for Step 2
Press Any button to exit the application.
PATCH IOS36:
Start Trucha Bug Restorer again.
Select which IOS to Load (Change to IOS15) and Press A.
Again after a few seconds you will get a message that says Press 1 to start the application. At that time press 1
After the install is finished Press any button to exit
RESTORE IOS15:

Start the Homebrew Channel and run "cIOS38_rev14 Installer".
Select IOS36 for the IOS to use for Instillation.
Select WAD Installation.
After the cIOS is installed the Wii should reboot to the Wii Channel menu.
NeoGamma R7: THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL USE TO LOAD GAMES!!!
Run WAD Manager.
Select A to agree to the disclaimer.
Select IOS version to use: <IOS249> Press A. Select NAND Emulation device <disable> Press A. Select source device: <Wii SD Slot> Press A. Go to NeoGamma_R7.wad and press A. Select action: <install wad> press A.
AND THATS IT!
Burn your ISO's with Imgburn at 4x speed MAX.
DONT UPDATE YOUR CONSOLE VIA NINTENDO. THE DOWNLOAD PACK COMES WITH A 4.0 and 4.1 UPDATE IF YOU WANT TO UPDATE THEN DO THE 4.0 THEN 4.1 AFTER. THIS IS A SAFE WAY TO UPDATE AS IT HAS BEEN PATCHED SO IT WILL NOT REMOVE ALL YOUR HOMEBREW SHIT.
You can now have a sweet set up like this if using an external USB HD. The covers for the games will auto download if you have an SD card in the slot. Fucking sweet.

You misunderstood me.
You dont need a gamecube, just the controller to navigate the bootmii menu - they are cheap, under 10 dollars and if you want to be safe, I would do it.
You don't need to backup, its just a precaution. Odds of you bricking are practically zero.

If you don't back up, all of this takes like 10 minutes max.
Backing up the NAND takes up most of the time.

Once you do this, I suggest getting the "Homebrew broswer" app.
Its fucking amazing. Connects to a server and shows you new app's, games, emulators, media applications etc for download onto the SD card to use on the Wii.
I went crazy and got a bunch of shit.
Wii Earth which is a google earth rip off.
Wii Radio - connects to servers and lets you listen to various radio stations. Shows the song name etc in the corner. Very nice when you have people over for a smoke session.
A media player which allows you to play pretty much any movie file, song file etc from the SD/DVD drive or USB HD.
And pretty much every emulator there was.
There is some stupid shit, like Wii cook (or some shit) which has different recipe's for dishes and displays them on screen and also a menotrome and alarm clock (which would probably only be useful for setting the blinds in a home game).

If anyone is still interested, but thought it was too much effort to do it this way - there is now a new way to hack the wii in a little under 5 minutes. You can be downloading and playing backups / emulators straight off a USB flash/HD.
I will update it if anyone is interested.

Yes, works on all firmwares up to the newest (4.2)
I am on 4.1 U right now, but just did a friends who is on 4.2 E (european).
This is a guide up to 4.1 but if anyone was retarded enough to update to 4.2 I can do another guide for that.
DOWNLOAD THIS FILE PACK FIRST
Then get a SD card (anything up to a 2 gig is gteed to work, once you are hacked you can use up to a 32 gig if you wish). Format it in FAT 32. Nothing else. Also, don't do a quick format, do a regular format - trust me.
a). Put all the files from ‘copy to sd card.rar’ onto the root of the SD Card - The fucking root. Dont create any folders and put them there. The ROOT.
b). Insert the SD card into Wii, power on your machine.
c). Go to Wii Options, then go to Data Management > Channels > SD Card, then you will get a message saying "Load boot.elf?" , select 'Yes' and the Hackmii installer will run.
d). Install Bootmii as boot2 if you can, if not then install it as an IOS then go back and install the Homebrew Channel.
HOMEBREW CHANNEL WILL ASK YOU TO UPDATE - SAY NO, DO THIS LATER!!!
2. CIOS INSTALL
a) Go to Homebrew channel and run Trucha Bug Restorer, load IOS36, press 1, read the warnings then select 'downgrade IOS15', select to load IOS from SD card then let it do its job, keep an eye on what it is doing and make sure you select 'load from sd card' when it asks & don't get any errors.
b) Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, this time select to load IOS15 on first screen using dpad left/right, then select the IOS36 menu & install patched (select 'yes' on all 3 patches) IOS36 to slot 36, again using IOS from SD card.
c) Run Trucha Bug Restorer again, load IOS36 and this time select restore IOS15.
d) Run cIOS38 r17 installer, select IOS36 as the one it should use and then select wad install.
[b]UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM MENU VERSION
Warning - If you don't install the patched IOS60 first you will brick![/b] This step is optional unless you are on 3.1, 3.3 or 3.4 in which case you must update, if you are on 3.2 or 4.0 you can update if you want and it is recommended that you do, if you are on 4.1 there is no need obv. If you are on 3.1 you will have to update to 4.0 first, make sure you install the patched IOS60 first though still. Before you update to 4.1 make sure you have at least 250 blocks free or you will brick, install IOS60-patched first with Wad Manager using IOS249, then run Firmware Updater 4.1. If you are on 3.3 or 3.4 then you must update now - DO NOT install priiloader until you have updated as it will cause untold problems!.
THE FINAL STEP
Priiloader is also an optional install, if you don't want it just skip b & c, but you must do step d, system menu hacks can be taken care of by Starfall (3.2) or startpatch (4/4.1). There are no system hacks for 3.3/3.4.
a) If you are on system menu 4/4.1 use Wad Manager with default settings (IOS249 & SD card) to install IOS60-patched.wad - make sure you do this before you install Priiloader. If you installed it in step 4 then skip this part. Never uninstall IOS60! You will brick!!
b). Open the Homebrew Channel and load Priiloader, press + to install. After install, your Wii should reboot and load the Priiloader menu. If it doesn't, turn your wii off and on again whilst holding down reset and it will load the Priiloader menu.
c) Select 'system menu hacks' in the Priiloader menu, and enable the hacks that you want - 'skip disc update check' and the region free ones are all you need. Select 'save settings' and wait for confirmation message to display 'settings saved'. Press B to go back, and enter Settings. Set 'Autoboot: System Menu' using D-Pad, then select save settings. Press B to return to main Priiloader menu.
d) In the Priiloader menu select Homebrew Channel (if you didn't install Priiloader then just open HBC as normal), run Wad Manager 1.4, use default settings (IOS249 & SD card) and install these wads from the 'wad' folder:
Now go act like a nigger and download some games!!
ISO's burn with imgburn at 4x speed MAX.
OR
Get usb drive, format it to WFBS using Wii Backup Manager on your PC, and transfer the games to it. Plug it into the SECOND usb port of your wii. Run USB loader GX (if you dont have it, download it and install with WAD manager) and play the games off the drive. Much better.

I had 4.1, so this was easy.
One small thing you left out: The first time you use WAD Manager, IOS60-patched.wad is also in the Wad directory.

Ahh yeah - good spot.
You have probably guessed by now that WAD's are basically install files. When you install a wad, it saves it to the system memory, so that will be your channels / wii ware / virtual console etc. DOL files are executables that you must run off of the SD or USB drive.
If you torrent "Wii WAD's" you can get a huge megapack with ppretty much everything you could want.
Def get the homebrew browser.
