Likely reality: bored Chinese teenager gets drunk on July 4th then DDoS's SKorea, US, NASDAQ, fails to really accomplish anything, so he downloads another episode of South Park then logs off and goes to bed.

Headlines the next day: HOLY SHIT KIM JONG IL'S CYBER TERRORISTS ARE GOING TO HACK THE PENTAGON AND USE IT TO MAKE YOUR CREDIT CARD EXPLODE IN YOUR POCKET, POSSIBLY KILLING YOUR CHILDREN.


Its fairly amazing how bad the reporting on all this is. No one is doing the slightest bit of due diligence regarding the nature of these attacks or their origins, and the articles themselves are being written by someone clearly turning to his 13 year old daughter for technical vetting.
