Dude, so my parents aren't wealthy as I am sure you can imagine. My mom has become fairly addicted to margarita's from some place called Aqui's. The margarita sits in a big machine and spins around, they cost 9 bucks a piece and I think it's a complete ripoff.

In an effort to save my parents some cash I went and bought some cuervo gold as well as some mix and made a few for my mom. She hated them. Followed recipe online.

Please, when you get time, would you mind dropping a nice mix for me that my mom might like? If it helps, she loves the ones from Aqui's (which I think are garbage but whatever).

Fresh squeezed lime juice. That's the whole fucking thing right there. Triple Sec, fresh lime juice, and others can help you more with the tequila. But skip the mix. (No doubt the Gold likely ain't the best choice, either.)

Fresh fuckin' juice. That's the extent of my margarita knowledge, but after tasting mixes and ones with actual fresh juice, I think its inarguable.

Also with regard to tequila, is bumping it to cazadores worth the extra price? I know cuervo is crap, I sometimes use souza...

You are right, the majority of drinks coming out of those machines are pretty crappy, and usually have very low grade alcohol in them.

She isn't happy unless it's the stuff out of the machine. It's basically a slushy from what I can see, with some tequila in it. I believe each glass has two shots, the glasses are 16oz or so.

She likes the green ones, so whatever they have in them...

Since I am sure you have some favorites, please drop one or a few on me sir. I will report back. This is for a 52 year old woman, who has low tolerance to alcohol, and for the most part does not like to taste her alcohol either. Much appreciated!

Sounds to me Mike like she doesn't want a Margarita at all, she wants a lime slurpy with a little tequila added.

All those frozen drink machines consist of certain flavors of sugar loaded syrups mixed with water, they pretty much all come in bag in box systems, so it's not like you can get the same things at home. It's basically the same thing as how a soda fountain works, with a freezing chamber.

You might be best served to go get those Cuervo frozen drink mixes you pick up in the supermarket or liquor store, and follow their ingredients. Definitely get a good tequila like Patron or Don Julio, and since your mom doesn't like the taste of the liquor I would go with silver (agave), it has much less of a bite as something like Cuervo gold.

Also, like Crowe Diddly said, you need a good bit of fresh squeezed lime juice, not the cordial shit like Rose's... Actual fresh squeezed lime juice, which you can buy by the quart. Or you could just cut some limes and squeeze them.

You also need a good orange liquor, which is what triple sec is, but I would go with Cointreau or Grand Marnier... Cointreau being the smoother of the 2.

Now, another key with a good Margarita is the sour mix you use, and how much of it. GET A GOOD SOUR MIX, preferably from a liquor store... Not the Margarita mixes... an actual sour mix. If you can find Tumbleweed that is a good one.

Simple 14 oz Margarita...

Fill glass with ice.

Pour in mixing tin...

1 1/4 oz of tequila

3/4 oz Grand Marnier or Cointreau

2-3 nice squeezes from quarter cut limes

8-12 oz of Sour Mix The more sour mix, the weaker the drink tastes, but also gets more sour, so you have to find the happy medium... You can also cut the sour with a splash of OJ or Cranberry juice, both work really well.

Pour ice in mixing tin. Shake.

Salt rim of glass, pour in drink and enjoy.

Yes.

All those frozen drinks are. I think those frozen drink mixes you can get at the market and liquor stores are also loaded up as well. You will never need to add sugar to a Margarita.

i enjoyed reading this thread, LOL i am just the same as ur mom,,, like same age,, have lo tolerance and barely want to taste the alchohol in any dirnks at all haha:):) i ouwldnt like a marg,, unless it was the forzen slushy kind eihter,,, but actually,, they are tooo sweeet for me lately and that makes me feel mor sickly than the alchohol,, its the sweet mixeso n think,,, SO my new thing is,,, ur mom mite like and is way more simplae and easy for at home, ive been makin my o wn good fruit smoothies in a blender at home for awhile,, ive gotten pretty goodd at it,really, and wehn i ffeel like a little drink LOL,, i beeen puring a teeny sip of vodka into a nice mixed frozen smoothie,, i,m sure u r mom can subs tequilla too and just make a nice blended smoothie and add the teq,, and forget about all the rest of the ingredients,, u really dont need them. MY fav combo of smoothie right now is half banana,, some strawberries,,,hal an applle,, lot of ice,, little bitof kerns nectar,,whatever flavor u like,,and sometimes a little sorbet or yoghurt,, comes out greattt,,,, then i add the sip of alchohol later:):) GLGL
