Anyone know where a newbie can get started w/ no-limit hold'em with a low buy-in, like $50 instead of the usual $100 or more?

Bill's has a 50 cent/$1 game populated by drunks and busto degens. $50 will certainly get you started in that game.

ive heard that bills has that also....i still suggest you play a 1-2 200 max buy in game mid morning if possible on a tuesday, wednesay and buy in with 100. preferably at a non known poker room such as the mirage, mgm, bellagio, wynn venetian. maybe somewhere like luxor, excaliber or the like.

stay away from downtowm because you will find a lot of older locals and such who will take you more than likely

gl whatever you do...just play and dont worry about your results so much. learn where you make mistakes and try not to make them again....read books, read books, and read books on poker and dont try to play above your level in a hand

pay attention to every hand you arent in try to guess what each player has and how they act. when you get to see the showdown see how close you were to being right and remember how the hand played out

thats the best i can tell you to start off. with those cheap buyins youre going to be forced to play a lot of ABC poker but theres nothing wrong with that as a beginner either just dont be afraid to lose
