I need to drop a photo of my "scooter" in this thread when I get motivated.... it's just a little bit larger and louder than these versions of 2 wheels.
Just guessing Max, adjust valves every 5k, replace drive belt and tires at ~15k, engine and clutch rebuild at 30 - 40k. Fork seals and rear shock as needed.
a honda I grew up on until getting a real motox.
My first streetbike in 86. Scared the hell outta myself almost every morning on Hwy 9 from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz, zipping down the coast to Watsonville and crossing Hecker Pass to 101 and rolling to afternoon shift in Santa Clara. Riding in a light mist was great, sliding rear wheel and steering with right wrist. Damn I loved this machine.

BTW, Cleatus is a really good guy, and obv very interesting to talk to. He stops by my bar every so often just to say hi. Never wants anything, even though I offer every time, just a genuinely nice person.
Good thread Drexel.

actually have considered buying a scooter for my local commute but don't know much about them. anyone have recommendations for a good reliable one other then the two mentioned? also, what is involved in scooter maintenance? don't need anything super heavy duty but Id like one that could get up to 60 or 70 mph.

Dang that roadtrip is right in my backyard. You heeb and vwls are the only people from my area I believe. Druff to a lesser extent, palo alto being further north than I'd like but still South Bay.
Chinese, even they don't know the brand name. Transmission case, kick starter and air filter directly above give it away. Some of these have the kick starter broke off and a piece of duct tape covering the hole.
I see you are interested in the old Hondas. I own a small company called Vintage Minis. I basicly buy, sell, trade, restore, and salvage old Hondas. If you're wanting a street legal minitrail I might be able to help.
I also own a motorcycle dealership and sell a few brands of chinese scooters. They are in no way Honda quality but the biggest problem with them isn't the components, it's the piss poor assembly.
If you get 30k miles out of a Japanese scoot it's reached it's life expectancy. However I've seen them going well past that.

If you wanna go that fast get a small "real" motorcycle. Check Honda site for Rebel 250 and look for similiar at Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki. I'd throw the links down but the tubes are slow tonite. 5k new but available here used, good ~2k. IMO the small wheel diameter of a scoot should not go over 50mph. The appeal of a scoot here is no registration, plate or insurance required, 50cc or less engine size and don't exceed 30 mph.

Was also stationed on Mare Island/Vallejo when it was a sub base for crypto class, and finished my enlistment at the communications center in Point Reyes, best town ever but so far above my income.

Thanks for the offer. I look at the Trail 110 as being perfect for my situation but any cycle cop would know at a glance that engine is bigger than 50cc.
What is the Full Tilt name for "Dan Druff", obv I could be wrong but I feel like it's "Dan Druff"
Cleatus had a ridiculous misfortune, maybe tonight will be the right place + right time.
Spoiler! :

Im really proud of the responses in this thread. For all those who are unable to transfer on stars or tilt, pm me and I will help get a transfer. Anyone who doesnt have a way to ship online also pm and we will figure out a way to get the money to cleatus.
Micon and I an any other locals interested will bring the money to cleatus at the time of purchase. And lets all try to come to some agreement on how we want our contributions shown on the scooter. Cleatus cant be riding around downtown with a shawnfanningslimpdick paintjob, erinmicunt was here etc. But there will def be donkdown representation and something we all agree that represents us all.
I dont know shit about scooters, so Max and anyone else educated about types, models etc plz help out.
I will also offer this. Cleatus has mentioned that 2k will get him exactly what needs. If we reach the 2k goal, I will film on video and broadcast live if allowed myself bungee jumping off the top of the stratosphere, which I have never done and also scares the living shit out of me.
From wikapedia "SkyJump Las Vegas holds the Guinness World Record for highest commercial decelerator descent with an official height of 829 ft (253 m) and is located at the Stratosphere Hotel & Casino"
Deal
Also, Druff plz keep thread updated with current numbers. And most of us aren't rich ballers, so even $5, $10 will help if everyone does there share. Like that little boy in Uruguay that Sally Struthers wanted us to save.

Cleatus, what is the expected life span (mileage wise) for that 2009 Ruckus ?
I need to drop a photo of my "scooter" in this thread when I get motivated.... it's just a little bit larger and louder than these versions of 2 wheels.
I picture you on a Night Train, Fat Boy, Road King or maybe a Dyna xx. Or you could have gone the other way with a Hayabusa, streched swing arm, turbo and nos injection to strenghten hands wrists and arms.

My guess. I can almost picture him on the dusty back roads of Texas making the run to Louisiana. Of course, it could be just too much acid back in the day and I put a face to everyone on the board.
