This event will get 6000 people -- or more, if Harrah's doesn't cap it.

Which DDers are going to play it?

I will definitely be there.

My advice? You are only starting with 3000 in chips (at least, that's what we had last year), so there isn't much time to get things going. You're going to have to gamble to get off to a good enough start to succeed.

With that said, note that the event will feature a lot of amateurs who have never played a WSOP event before. They will be playing scared and won't want to voluntarily put in their chips with weak hands. If someone is representing strength, you should probably believe them.

There are a total of 6 1k events, excluding the Seniors Event.

They will run every Saturday of the series at 12pm. The event may take 4 playing days & 5 calendar days to complete depending on field size.

They are expecting large fields for all the 1k's. This year they will be using the Grand Pavilion as well as the Amazon room to accommodate all the expected players.

377 Tables!!

Check out the Jack Effel WSOP Interview here for more info:

I will be playing this event, unless something unforeseen happens. Would be willing to give you a couple hundred for your 10k limit event when I get into vegas then as well Druff. If anyone wants to meet up and get a few drinks or just walk the strip I am down for really whatever. Going to be like playing the lotto here but hopefully i can cash for a good amount.

Even though there are other $1k events, I think this one will still get 6,000 people because it's the first one (and it's tied for the cheapest).

Who remembers when they had those weird $1k events AFTER the Main Event started?

I have two not-so-fond memories from those.

In 2005, Interpoker bought me into one of them as one of several rewards for winning a bracelet while wearing their clothing.

I got crapola cards but was able to strategically steal blinds to keep myself alive. People were dropping like flies, since you started with only 1000 chips back then (LOL).

Anyway, we got down to like 76 people out of the 780-or-so size field. Normally this would be a cash, but they decided to make it 72 people.

Someone else busted and we were down to 75. I had so few chips that I virtually had no chance to make real money, but I wanted another cash under my belt so I could keep my then-perfect record at the WSOP alive.

My cards were such utter crap, and I kept folding despite being short-stacked, since I kept facing early position raises. Finally the blinds came and I knew I would have to get my chips in no matter what. I folded the SB with something like 26o, but got QJo on the BB.

It folded to the then-unknown Svetlana Gromenkova, who opened from middle position with A6o. Folded to me, I put the rest of my chips in, and the board came A-Q-x.

:donkdown

Was kinda annoyed at Svetlana, because the middle-position A6o raise was kinda stupid given her above-average stack size.

Anyway, I had one pretty good memory -- finishing 4th in one of those events, in 2006. I was very short-stacked and had virtually no chance at 1st-3rd, so I was happy to get 4th.

I played another one of these in 2006. I got off to a good start, and was optimistic going into the dinner break. I went to the Rio buffet for dinner.

:baddecision

Totally fucked up my stomach. Big time. I felt so sick that I could barely sit still. I was also very card dead, but I felt so lousy that I kinda hoped I would bust. I ended up barely cashing in 39th.

Captain Tom Franklin was at my table. A 22-year-old girl was watching him play from the rail. Miri made conversation with her, and she claimed to be his daughter. It turned out to be complete bullshit, as this was just a cover story in order to prevent people from talking about him being a perv. This was before the Brandi Penis-On-The-Back story, but I got a good lol out of the situation once that all came out.

I am playing this event on Day 1A May 29th. That way if I survive day 1 I can rest all day the next day and be ready for action on day 2 Monday.

I play every weekend at our local casinos ussually 60 to 140 people. Buy in for $100 to $300. I recently won a $200 buy with 92 people for $4400. That is paying for my trip, as well as my sale of pickemall.com for $1600 :) Anyway I am up just over $5000 playing tournaments for the year. So I am not a "great" player by far but can hold my own.

But going to play in this tournament will be interesting. Even tho Druff may be right about when someone raises most likely they have a real hand, there has to be that crazy X factor and I feal I will have to dodge allot of bullets from donks just to stay alive. 3000 chips is not allot, I am used to 7K to 10k in starting chips and its not so much bingo. Druff said you need to gamble at the beginning, I guess I will just have to pick my spots. It's always better to open raise or reraise then to be a caller. I play a Dan Harrington sytle with some of my own tweaks. Mabey its too conservative for this type of tournament but would work better in the main event with lots of chips and the 10K buy in gets rid of allot of the donks.

I wanted to arrange a meeting of DD'ers and brought it up a couple times on the radio show but was told by Micon and Druff to just see us around at the Rio and come up and say hi.

I will be posting in here with my daily updates.

Anyone know where I can get throw away prepaid cell phones in Vegas?

Actually, a Dan Harrington conservative style would work well in this tournament -- at least until you get deeper and the players are better.

My point on the radio is that it's foolish to put moves on most players in the early-goings, because if they are showing strength, they probably have it. If you're going to pull bluffs and semi-bluffs, I'd suggest doing so when the opposition shows weakness, as they're also likely to NOT have it in that case (except for slow-play situations on dry boards).

You should probably be able to steal blinds and antes more easily, especially in the middle phases when doing so can really help you.

I remember in 2008, I made day 2 of the first event (then $1500). Shane Schleger was the only good player at my table. Everyone else was terrified of busting on the bubble, since they ended day 1 about 60 spots from the money (out of over 3000 players). Shane and I just kept pounding the table in the ass until the bubble burst, and they even reported about this on Pokernews.

I used to rock the pre-paid cell phones for a couple years after I ended my Contract with US Cellular and before my recent contract I have with T-Mobile. If you are looking for an unlimited plan your best bet is a boostmobile phone which will range from $60-$250 and its $50 for unlimited and you may have to goto an electronics department in a department store to get one. Where as most "cheaper" phones you can find in walgreens...

If you are only going to use the phone for a short period and not that often you should probably get a Virgin Mobile phone. The cheap phones are like $10-$20 and for $25 you get a few hundred minutes with a few hundred text messages.

Sure the phones are hardly functional but for calling and sending basic text msgs you should be fine.

Micon, I think it is great that you have backing for the series but if you can you should buy into any of these horse events on your own dime. Deep run last year + it seems you are always going deep online in these.

I agree.

Micon is a pretty good NL tournament player, but so are tons of other people these days.

His real edge comes in the HORSE event. That's where Micon shines, because he is one of those rare players who can play every game competently.

I hope that Micon has 100% of himself in that event, or this is a huge mistake. The only way it's not a mistake is if Micon had to allow himself to be backed on the HORSE event in order to get backing on other events.

Can we get a WSOP CMU thread? One that all the players can post in and list their CMU accounts and the event they are playing in.

I used to have some crappy one from Virgin Mobile. I think it cost about $25. Then I'd randomly add minutes via their website $20 at a time. It works well if you don't use a phone a lot
