Something about Blizzard cinimatic trailers that get the juices flowing. I've heard anywhere from October to December on a release date. I will go out on a limb and say it may be until 2009 when we will see this hit stores. From the small ammount of footage on the net the game looks amazing but there is only a small ammount of information available on the game (Just 2 classes, no feat trees, itemization..etc).
I just hope they can put a stop to hacking and duping, it really ruins the economy in game. I'd almost be willing to pay a small monthly fee to keep game information like that serverside so its harder to exploit the game but I doubt Blizzard will do that and just make a seperate community for the game (like Battle.net for Diablo2).

There weren't that many dupes on bnet, were there? And didn't they dissapear when certain updates came out?

In the beginning their were alot, economies were flooded sometimes dupes would dissapear some would stay, but you cant really hate on them it was one of the first large multiplayer games since ultima i think.
I was very heavy into D2 getting a few 99 hardcore characters, if anyone on here is interested in starting a group to play reguarly together let me know. i hope this doesnt dissapoint like hellgate london did

From what I remember....keep in mind I haven't played D2 in like 3 years? the only way to get a "true" item is if it wasn't identified. So if you got an epic hydrabow you knew it was a windforce. You are correct that most of the dupes would vanish but it still ruins the economy because all the crooked fuckers are hoarding all the legit SOJ's/Runes (currency from when I played) and dumping them on sites that pay cash for items or re-selling them back while Johnny adverage is seeing that his item he has saved up weeks for is gone on a new patch

I played D2 until my eyes bled.... can't fucking wait for D3, even though rumor has it that the Paladin will not be back, suckage.
.... and I completely agree on the dupes, it completely ruined the game for me when about 90% of trading was nothing but a rolling in progress.
If they can keep the game legit as far as dupes go, I am there.... would probably even pay a small monthly fee just to play it online.

I started playing Diablo II again like a month back.
Everyone on there either wants to duel, or they are low level players. When I was going through Quests I-III I could usually find groups to play with. Now I can't even play quest 4 without people walking around you, teleporting back to town, showing aggression, then coming back to try and rape you.

I thought the aggression had to be mutual so no one could do that... anyway D2 kicked tons of ass back in the day, and it has had incredible longevity for an online mmo. Theres still tons of people online playing and the game is very old. Duping was def out there for a while, then people started doing that thing where it had to be unidentified to be considered legit, which didn't work very well. Trading sucked bc as maxdreidel said it was 90% people trying to roll you. People trying to get you to drop shit so they could telekinesis it up, or tricking you into giving them some sojs. D3 could be sweet, all they have to do is more of the same, add new levels and keep a wide variety of classes. This could be a great game and I will probably give it a shot.

D2 was a f'ing blast for me and the only negative was the SOJ economy that was nothing but dupes and scamming. I built a few semi-elite characters, mostly based around Paladins but I was never rich enough to get to the top of the food chain. The rarest thing I ever found was a Cham rune. The last month or so that I really played seriously I noticed there was a surge in the value of gems and had a few characters that excelled in cow slaughters with no support needed to stay alive so I just ran a ton of them and collected as many gems as I could find then swapped trade screens full of whatever flavor they needed for semi-elite stuff, runes for Fury, etc.... I have no idea what the market is like now, don't even know if my account is still even active.
I down loaded one of those modified D2 games (I forget the version) that employed a really cool idea... everything could be socketed, up to the size of the item (rings=1, helmets=4, etc) and "souls" of items (regardless if it was a rune word item, rare, elite whatever) could be harvested and inserted into the sockets. The variations of builds was huge because of this. For a simple example, you could take the Herald of Zack paladin shield and put 6 sockets in it, then get 6 more of those shields and harvest the soul of each of them and put them in the socketed shield and all of the attributes would stack. The game also dropped the Constriction ring which was too powerful for Blizzard to continue to drop in the realm games. Being able to stack tons of attributes allowed you to create characters that could meet (or exceed in theory) the limits of the game in just about everything imaginable... to compensate for the God like characters that you could build if your were creative enough they amped up the toughness of the Bosses and minions (drops were spectacular though). Some of the skills normally ignored in the realm game really came to life when you got the skill level well beyond what was obtainable in the normal game.

Nah you just have to be in town to declare aggression. So if out on the stoop of town dicking around its easy for someone to tele to town go hostile and chase you down.

Holy shit I posted that back in 08, I guess I was right about the potential 09 release but I may have to say 2010. Unlike most game developers Blizzard doesn't give a flying fuck about having the game come out for the holiday season because they want there game flawless out of the box and I know they are trying to get a move-on with StarCraft2 even though two different divisions of Blizzard are probably working on it I bet all there extra time and effort will be trying to release SC2 because that will bring in more money than Diablo3.
I played Diablo2 again a few months ago just for shits n giggles, I ran up a Orb/Chainlightning Sorc to the low 90's just for Magic Finding runs. My alt was a Pally Smiter that was 83 that was basically going to do solo Uber runs then I got the ban hammer for maphacking. Good news is that my D2/XP key still works, bad news all my lewtz and toons are gone. It really doesn't take much to level a toon in Diablo2....just take a starting toon and do Trist runs, then do Cow Runs then do Baal Runs, rinse and repeat on Nightmare and Hell until the XP dries up (it gets harder after 80'ish). Its getting the good gear thats hard. I may consider playing again once 1.14 comes out and the ladders reset, everyone here should get on the boat for that.
Just looked at the Diablo3.com website and some videos on youtube, the Monk seems pretty sweet but I am afraid because of the long animation times on his attacks I don't seem him being that good but hopefully I am wrong and they made a good choice by bringing a martial arts character into D3.

I played softcore for maybe a couple days before I decided to just jump into hardcore so the game and dieing would mean alot more. I had alot more respect for the players and the game itself playing with the risk of losing everything. This was pre poker so when a couple of my 70s bit the dust due to gay lag or some nonsense corpse explosion I had my first blow ups at on the computer yelling and throwing shit around. After that I got heavy into botting. Running a pindleskin bot which was awsome for lvling and gear. The sorc I had doing it pretty much had every top notch item there was and would gear up my other characters that I would legitimately do xp runs with since. I had a 99 javazon and a 99 druid. I had assasins, necro, barb and paladain. in the 80s in 90s as well. The sorc eventually died while botting, and I think one of my other high characters died so I sold my account and also my mule account (another account with characters that just held all the loot) I got $100 something for it all which was a decent amount of money to me then.
As far as the most enjoyable characters to play, my druid was a werewolf and just a fucking beast in hand to hand combat, most of the time I'd be the one tanking diablo or something, same with my barbarian. The javazon was fun in cow level we'd get a crew together and they would all follow me around as I cleaned house. Never was a fan of the assassin I'd just go around laying corpse explosion traps around. Necromancer was probably the hardest to keep alive, low life, low armor, he had a pretty sick army that I would roll with. When I first started out paladins were completely awsome with the spinning hammer thing but then they balanced it out so I had to build a zeal one.
