for the russki i think the best hand would be something like

A-A-K-Q-J double suited...

the best Ruski hand is certainly up for debate.

The best player-Russki hand is most likely 10-J suited.

drawing hands are huge, and A-A isn't that great for teh player to have. A few times it folded to the cut-off with /A-A, and he did raise but every time got rolled by the 5-card Russki. A-A is a FOLDING HAND in the cut-off.

Hi micon,

Could you give some examples of the amounts the russki has to put in to raise and when there has been a bet and raise before him? I want to play this in a home game soon and want to make sure I understand the rules fully.

Thanks.

20-40 Beat the Russki. This is a typical hand we played. sb posts $10, bb posts $20, Russki posts $30 on the button.

pf: limp, limp, fold, limp, limp, limp, fold, Russki says "call."

Now at this point the Russki would have to call, in addition to his $30 he's already called, $20 X 5 limps, or $100. Now the sb/bb are still yet to act, and there could (usually are) some more bets the Russki will have to call in order to take a flop. To make your game easier, I suggest the Russki verbally saying "call" or "Raise," knowing about how much he needs to call (easy to calculate if he wants the exact $), but then actually calling the amount after all the pf action is complete.

ok, so let's say the sb puts in a raise, and the bb + the 5 limpers call - that means 7 handed + the Russki, and easy-to-calculate $40 X 7 or $280 for the Russki to take a flop. Notice the Russki naturally closes the pf betting in this situation, but usually he must "after-call" any bets after he has already called - I.e. the sb completing his bet would need to be called by the Russki before the flop. Lastly, if the Russki would like to raise then I say he should put in 3 bets or $60 (not like, $400) so everyone knows what's going on, and then the Russki calls off the real amount at the end of the pf action. A solid dealer won't hurt in this game smile.gif

Ok, so then the flop comes down and let's say the action goes like this. Remember there is $280 X 2 in the pot or $560. The Russki is always in for half the pot, so pot size is easy to figure.

Flop action: check, bet, fold, call, call, call, fold, Russki Raises (only puts in $40, but knows this will be an expensive raise!) let's say the action goes fold, call, call, call, call. - Russki puts in a total of 4 X $40 or $160. Total pot = $560 + $160 X 2 or $880.

Turn: This is where it's usually a bet and everyone calls. Let's say everyone checks to the Russki who bets, and gets 3 callers. $120 for the Russki, pot size = $1120

River: usually bet by the leader of the Turn, except when an obvious filth-card hits the board. The Russki usually has more than 1 draw going into the river! For the sake of argument let's say it's Russki bet, and 1 call on the river. There are usually many callers on the river, because the pot is just way to big. We did see 1 good Russki bluff to take down a huge pot. Bet / call on the river makes this pot $1200. This is without a really good pf cap / flop action.

Hope this helps!

I regularly play in a limit omaha Hi-lo game at one of the local casinos, its
5-10 with a kill. Any time theres a pot over 80 bucks that gets scooped, the next hand turns into 10-20. The person who killed the last pot gets a
button that says kill on it placed infront of them an has to post a bb on it
no matter what pos theyre in. Bit of a disadvantage to have to post a bb in a random pos but the nice thing about it is that they get to act last pre-flop. So action passes around them, then to the blinds, then its on them.

If you really want to compensate for the extreme disadvantage that the russki has(putting up half the pot if he wants to play)and balance the game a bit more, I think he should get to act last on all streets, including pre-flop, having the action pass around him to the blinds then to him.

Then again Im sure hell rarely raise unless hes a bit of a gambler so it may dull the game.

You think you need to explain what a kill is?

I was gonna post that same thing earlier but I didn't feel like being a dick at the moment.

P.S. Ran into this kid that learned BTR with us on the Party Cruise so many years ago. He says the game is still played in his home game 2x each week. no shit - there are like 5 dudes that definitely know the "finer points" of Beat The Ruski.
